Virtual Coffee Maintainers

Each Virtual Coffee Community is supported by the Virtual Coffee Organization. The Organizational Maintainers provide tools, training, and resources to empower each open source community to create an intimate and safe space for everyone. The Organizational Maintainers will review documentation and provide decisions that with the overall mission and vision of the Organization.

Virtual Coffee is an open source community, supported by community maintainers.

A Community Maintainer is a volunteer leader within a specific community, who provides support for the members of the community, and who agrees to the mission and vision of the Virtual Coffee Organization

Relationship with Virtual Coffee Organization​

  • Commit to the mission and values of the Virtual Coffee Organization
  • Support and enforce the COC
  • Implement universal Virtual Coffee Organization projects and ensure support for members
  • Commit to working with and providing feedback to the Virtual Coffee Organization
  • Responsive and dependable -- we recognize that this is a volunteer position and that life changes. And it’s natural for maintainers to change or leave. We want to ensure a healthy environment for the whole community, including you. It’s ok to take a leave of absence or to step down. We encourage honesty with admins, and thoughtful self-evaluation.

Specific Community Responsibilities​

  • Define goals, and ensure the health of the organization
  • Commit to working with the other maintainers
  • Commit to supporting open source culture
  • Are an active community member
  • Contribute as a cohort admin, leader, mentor
  • Feel responsibility for the community and are committed to improving and supporting it
  • Support project leads and contributors
  • Know the community and can nominate community leads
  • Help create and maintain clear documentation and approve contributions of the members.
  • Use the VC Maintainers repo to communicate with admin and other maintainers if you want to make significant changes, additions, or have suggestions on processes.
  • Identify community needs, plan, and support events and the members
  • Ensure that your coffee chats are consistently held
  • Attend coffee chats regularly
  • Help create and maintain a positive and friendly community that allows members to grow
  • Treat members with kindness and respect
